And the backlash continues
Netflix has confirmed that the controversial satire Insatiable is returning for a second season despite accusations of fat-shaming and a dangerous dieting narrative.
The deluge of complaints and one-star reviews about the first season have all fed into massive viewing figures, with Insatiable becoming one of the most talked-about shows this year.
Show creator Lauren Gussis (Dexter) wanted the show to poke fun at – rather than perpetuate – the teen drama trope of the makeover montage. She told Vanity Fair: “The story is not ‘somebody gets thin, becomes happy, and gets everything she wants.’ It’s actually quite the opposite, but the story has to start somewhere.”
Insatiable star Alyssa Milano recently defended the show, saying it is “not shaming Patty. We are addressing the damage that occurs from fat shaming.
“We are addressing (through comedy) the damage that occurs from fat shaming,” she said. “I hope that clears it up.”
